What is CPD?
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) refers to the structured learning activities that professionals undertake to maintain, improve, and broaden their knowledge and skills. In the mining and resources sector, CPD is essential for staying current with legislative changes, safety obligations, and industry best practice.
MINRES.edu.au aligns its CPD framework with the principles established by the CPD Standards Office, an internationally recognised body that provides guidance on the quality and measurement of CPD activities. Under this framework, one CPD hour is broadly equivalent to one hour of structured, verifiable learning.
All MINRES CPD certificates are issued with a unique certificate number and QR code that can be independently verified at /verify. Certificates are suitable for submission to professional bodies, employers, and regulatory authorities as evidence of structured CPD.
Learner CPD Calculation
Learners earn CPD credit by completing activities on the platform. Each completed activity — whether a podcast episode, quiz, or quick guide — is counted as a discrete learning event. The CPD calculation is as follows:
The 20-minute allocation per activity is a conservative estimate based on the average time required to meaningfully engage with each content type. Podcast episodes average 18–25 minutes; quizzes require careful reading of questions and consideration of answers; quick guides are designed for focused 15–20 minute reading sessions.
A minimum of 3 activities (equivalent to 1 CPD hour) is required before a certificate can be generated. Certificates are issued in batches of 3 activities (1 CPD hour) or 6 activities (2 CPD hours). Learners may generate multiple certificates over time as they accumulate further activities.

Contributor CPD Recognition
Contributors who create and submit content to MINRES.edu.au are also eligible for CPD recognition. The act of researching, preparing, and producing educational content is itself a significant professional development activity. Contributor CPD allocations reflect the effort and expertise required to produce each content type:
Contributor CPD certificates are issued upon content approval by the MINRES editorial team. The certificate references the specific content type and title, providing a clear record of the professional contribution made.
